Internet connectivity has enjoyed ever-increasing speed and reliability, combined with ever-decreasing cost.  It has allowed for a paradigm shift in the way computing resources are made available to businesses and individuals alike.  Hosted services have displaced on-premises infrastructure solutions in an impressive way.  In fact, it has even become a household name, known as "The Cloud".

Regardless of what it is called, this category of solutions is based on the simple idea that scalable computing resources can be made available on-demand, with little setup time required, and little-to-no up-front cost, while enjoying the reliability afforded by a full-time maintenance team.

There are pros and cons associated with each type of solution:

Characteristics

On-premises

Hosted/Cloud

High up-front cost

Low-to-no up-front cost

Highly flexible for virtually unlimited integration options

Limited flexibility when integrating with other technologies

Capable of achieving the most secure operation possible through owner's knowledge of all administrators and control over architecture

Questionable security of operation due to unknown number of unknown administrators and no control over architecture

Performance is consistent

Performance on shared infrastructure can be inconsistent due to load caused by other subscribers

Owner has complete control over configuration

Owner has limited control over configuration

Maintenance, including backup, is owner's responsibility

Maintenance, and often backup, is offloaded to the hosting provider

Scaling beyond the capacity of the existing solution can be an arduous process, potentially requiring high up-front costs all over again if scaling up, or decisions about what to do with unneeded equipment if scaling down

Scaling can be achieved immediately, with incremental cost proportional to scale

Deployment can be painfully slow

Immediate deployment

To be weighed per scenario

One-time investment lasts many years

Ongoing cost associated with service

Logitree provides both on-premises and hosted services solutions.  It is quite common for a given situation to benefit from a combination of the two, where a hybrid solution can be provided.

Logitree offers white label hosted service solutions that are resold from a provider Logitree has vetted and in which Logitree has complete confidence, Intermedia.  These solutions are rebranded and carry Logitree's logo, billing, customer service, and technical support, so as to provide customers with a seamless technical services offering.  It is possible for customers to also obtain these solutions directly from Intermedia.  The pricing structure is designed to be non-competitive between the two companies.  The benefit to the customer for obtaining such services from Logitree is the ease of one-stop shopping and the warmth of personalized interaction with the potential for on-site visits when needed.
